Consumer goods company Unilever East Africa has launched its first fully recycled and recyclable plastic packaging in partnership with recycler Mr Green Africa. The Sunshine scouring powder will be sold in packaging made from fully-recycled materials in Kenya and the East African region. Unilever East Africa said in a statement “…the move will mitigate the use of thousands of tonnes of virgin plastic each year, once the switch is completed.”
The company in 2018 recorded a profit after tax of GH¢190825 million. According to the unaudited statements, " Revenue for the year under review was GH¢339.8 million compared to GH¢632.1 million in 2018. The results reflect challenging trading conditions as well as the prioritization of inventory reduction in our distribution network as highlighted in our disclosure in September 2019.”
Shareholders of Unilever Nigeria Plc last Friday reported a loss of N4.22 billion for the year ended December 2019, compared with N10.148 billion posted in 2018. The shareholders of Unilever Nigeria had last year received a total dividend of N1.50 per share being part of profit recorded for the year and the benefit from the disposal of the company’s spreads business. However, the company has ended 2019 with negative performance for 2019 financial year.
The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) also ordered Carrefour, through its franchise holder Majid al Futtaim’s (MAF), to expunge six items from its supplier contracts that are said to give the store the power to offer ultra-competitive pricing to boost sales and increase market share. The clauses include forcing suppliers to pay a non-refundable fee to do business with it and forcing merchants offering the retail chain goods to provide extra rebates or discounts.
JOHANNESBURG – Nasdaq-listed PepsiCo’s ambitions to entrench its foothold in Africa received a major boost yesterday after the Competition Commission gave its proposed $1.7 billion (R25.52bn) takeover of South Africa’s food distribution giant, Pioneer Foods, the go-ahead. The antitrust body said it had given the transaction a conditional green light, saying it would have not have negative implications for the local industry.
