Investment & Trade   ADAFSA green lights five investment projects worth AED 524 million to spur growth of Abu Dhabi's agriculture sector   In cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office. The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has approved five investment projects worth AED 524 million to establish fish, vegetable, fruit, cattle and poultry farms on a total land and sea area of approximately four million m2. Bahrain Works Ministry opens tender for soilless farming projects   The minister said the project’s financial preparations has been carried out for 36 months, including a two-year period for the operation of the two areas, comprising 18,000m2 in Diraz and 24,000m2 in Hurat A’ali. Jordan's JEDCO signs 13 linkage agreements between farmers, exporters   The Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) signed 13 linkage agreements between farmers, exporters and hypermarket owners as part of one of the "Rural Economic Growth and Employment Project - REGEP" activities. ADQ enters agreement to acquire stake in Louis Dreyfus company   As part of this transaction, LDC also signed a long-term commercial supply agreement with ADQ for the sale of agri-commodities to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Innovation   Egypt’s national AI council discusses using technology in agriculture, irrigation    Egypt’s National Council for Artificial Intelligence held its second meeting. The meeting reviewed Egypt’s national strategy for artificial intelligence (AI), which aims to localise the technology and expand its usage to achieve the country’s development goals. NADEC, Pure Harvest to build high-tech hydroponic climate-controlled greenhouses   The National Agricultural Development Company (NADEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pure Harvest Smart Farms Company to build and operate approximately six-hectare high-tech hydroponic climate-controlled greenhouses as a first phase within NADEC City in Haradh.    Egypt Irrigation Minister inspects saline lands cultivation experiment in Suez    Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdel Aaty, visited Suez governorate, to inspect the governorate’s water resources and irrigation projects. He particularly visited the salin e lands allocated for cultivating highly saline wheat and other crops by using agricultural wastewater.   Visionary in Rwanda Is Growing Potatoes in the Air     Aeroponics is a climate-friendly way of planting in which roots are suspended in the air and grow in a humid environment. No soil is involved. Instead the plants are sprayed with water and nutrient solution. This technique enables farmers to control humidity, temperature, pH and water conductivity inside a greenhouse.    Regulatory   15% customs duty for imported vegetables in Saudi Arabia   The Saudi Customs imposed 15 percent customs duty on imported vegetables. This follows a decision of the Council of Ministers to make amendments in the customs regulations in a way protecting and encouraging local industries and agricultural products. Indian lawmakers pass farm bills amid uproar in Parliament   Indian lawmakers on Sunday approved a pair of controversial agriculture bills that the government says will boost growth in the farming sector through private investments.
