Siemens Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) to jointly develop a hydrogen-based industry in Egypt with the capability for export.
The partnership will aim to promote investment, facilitate technology transfer and develop hydrogen projects based on renewable energy in Egypt.
The German ministry will provide 40 million euros ($47mn) from its economic stimulus package to drive the co-operation. Namibia will publish its hydrogen strategy in November. Water is scarce so hydrogen production would have to use seawater. Despite the need to desalinate this, the two sides expect costs to be low. The Southern African state hopes to be able to export green hydrogen before 2025.

According to the East African journal, Nigeria now intends to supply Europe with gas from the Nigeria-Morocco pipeline.

The Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) has opened a call for proposals for solar and wind projects, looking to provide USD 200 million (EUR 171m) under a programme developed together with the Green Climate Fund.
The investment plan, which Eskom could carry out by itself or in partnerships, is the most detailed demonstration yet of the utility’s ambition to move away from coal by taking advantage of the nation’s abundant wind and solar resources.
Solar power systems with a total capacity of 435 MW and 142 MW of onshore wind turbines were installed in Germany in July, data published by the Federal Network Agency shows.
The bulk of the new solar capacity, or 308.8 MW, featured plants connected to the grid outside of EEG tenders. Of these, only 10.2 MW were ground-mounted systems.
