Abu Dhabi extends $50m to develop Maldives airport

October 18, 2017 - The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has extended $50 million in development aid to build the Velana International Airport in the Maldives. ADFD's concessionary loan to the Maldivian government will help build a passenger terminal and a maintenance building, in addition to supporting the completion of Phase 1 works for the airport's southern terminal.

UBA invests $5bn in African Infrastructure Development

October 17, 2017 - United Bank for Africa (UBA) says it has invested more than $5 billion to support infrastructure development across the African continent in the last seven years. Mr. Alawuba, CEO of Anglophone UBA Group, said that the investment in the last 5 to 7 years, which cut across African countries where the bank exists, were in electricity, power generation, road construction and rehabilitation.

CSCEC wins $3bn CDB contract in Egypt

October 16, 2017 - China State Construction Engineering Corp (CSCEC) has been awarded a contract worth $3bn by the Egyptian government to build a Central Business District (CBD) in Egypt's new administrative capital. The CBD will be constructed over an area of approximately 505,000 sq m in the core area of the Phase I project of the New Administrative Capital.

BAM International wins EUR14.5M contract in Dubai

October 13, 2017 - BAM announced that its subsidiary BAM International had been awarded a contract in Dubai worth 14.5 million euros ($17.2 million). BAM has been contracted to build 2.75 kilometers of dual carriageway for DP World at its flagship Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, UAE.

African Development Bank Group supports inclusive growth in Benin

October 13, 2017 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has approved the institution's intervention strategy in Benin for the period 2017-2021. The strategy supports the Government's Program of Action (PAG 2016-2021) for the country's economic and social development.

Turkey reveals preliminary date for start of Istanbul Canal’s construction

October 12, 2017 - Construction of Istanbul Canal, a waterway that will link the Black and Marmara seas, may begin in late 2017 after a winner of the tender for selecting contractors is defined, or in early 2018, the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of Turkey announced. The project’s cost is $10 billion.

October 12, 2017 - Jacob's South African joint-venture, Jacobs Matasis, has won a two-year contract from Sasol for project management services and specialized resources. Construction of Sh78bn Kenya-Tanzania highway to begin 2018

October 11, 2017 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) is looking for financial partners capable of investing Sh40 billion into the construction of a highway connecting Kenya to neighboring Tanzania. AfDb has already set aside Sh30 billion for the construction of the long awaited Malindi-Bagamoyo highway and is now seeking a financial partnership to meet the budget deficit and finance the remaining Sh48.5 billion required to complete the transnational highway.

Thales to maintain 2,400km railway line in Saudi Arabia

October 9, 2017 - Thales has secured a contract to maintain the signaling, telecommunication and electromechanical systems of the Northern Train project in Saudi Arabia. The two-year contract was awarded by the Saudi Railway Company (SAR) and also includes the transfer of knowledge to the SAR`s local team. Thales is expected to deploy specialised engineers and technicians across eight bases to maintain the railway line.

Oman's ministry grants license to operate Sultan Qaboos Port in Muscat

October 7, 2017 - Oman Global Logistics, which was recently rebranded as Asyad, has been granted a license to operate Sultan Qaboos Port in Muscat by the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The Ministry of Transport and Communications grants Asyad the licence to manage and operate the port of Sultan Qaboos starting January 1, 2018.

Angolan Atlantic Ventures to construct Barro do Dande port

September 28, 2017 - The Angolan Ministry of Finance is set to issue a $1.5 billion sovereign guarantee to ensure the financing of the construction of the Barro do Dande port, located on the country's northwest coast. The guarantee was published in Angola's official gazette under a presidential decree, and will grant the contract for the port's construction to a partnership of Atlantic Ventures and the management company of the port of Luanda.
