Nigeria: Government and NLNG sign N120 billion contract to construct Bonny-Bodo road
The Ministry of Power, Works and Housing has signed a tripartite agreement of N120 billion with Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG, and Julius Berger Plc. for the construction of Bonny-Bodo road. NLNG as a corporate organization has decided to fund half of the project by taking 50 per cent cost of delivering the project while the Federal Government takes 50 per cent.
Ghana: Railway sleeper plant to save Ghana $27 million annually
A concrete railway sleeper plant has been inaugurated at the Dawa Industrial City in the Greater Accra Region to manufacture concrete sleepers – steel reinforced rectangular supports for rails – in the country and the sub-region at large. The plant, which is owned by Atlantic Concrete, is expected to save the country up to US$27 million per annum when in full capacity.
Zambia: Chinese firm awarded $1.2 billion road expansion project
Zambia has awarded a Chinese firm a $1.2 billion contract to expand part of a key road linking Zambia to the Democratic Republic of Congo and southern African neighbors. China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic and Technical Cooperation (CJIC) will build the 321 km (200 mile) Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway over four years.
South Africa: Strabag wins €106 million bridge construction contract
Strabag International, a subsidiary of Austrian construction firm Strabag, has won a contract worth about €106m for the construction of a new bridge over the river Mtentu in eastern South Africa. The scope of the contract, awarded by the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL), will include the construction of a 1,132m long bridge over the river Mtentu near the town of Flagstaff. The bridge will stand on a total of 13 piers.
Ethiopia: Public funds collected for mega dam construction
Ethiopia has collected $460 million from the public for the construction of a 6,450 megawatts hydro dam on Blue Nile River. Named Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), located in western Ethiopia, 40 kilometers from Ethiopia’s border with Sudan, it is the largest hydro project in Africa.
Nigeria: Dam power plant contract awarded to Chinese state firm
Nigeria has approved the construction of a $5.8 billion hydroelectric power plant by a Chinese state firm. The project, if completed, could provide a much-needed source of energy for Nigeria.
Djibouti: Eiffage and Tedagu to build desalination plant
French engineering firm Eiffage Genie Civil in consortium with Tedagua of Spain has won a contract to build a desalination plant in Djibouti, east Africa. The partners were chosen from a shortlist of three bidders that were selected in March 2017. The total contract value is €63 million, of which Eiffage’s share is €37 million.
Madagascar: China to fund construction of road for egg producers
The Chinese government will fund the construction of a road for egg producers in Madagascar, representatives from the two countries confirmed during a signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of the project in Antananarivo.
Ghana: Government seeks $10 billion to execute railway master plan
Government is seeking to attract an estimate of $10 billion, after considering cost of track and associate infrastructure, to revamp Ghana’s dilapidated rail system and also create an economic corridor along the rail lines.
Egypt: $1.24 billion light rail deal signed with AVIC and China Railway Group
Two Chinese state companies have signed a $1.24 billion deal with Egypt to build a light rail system around Cairo. Under the agreement signed with Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels (NAT), China’s AVIC international and China Railway Group will build a 66-km network with 11 stations.
Strabag, the publicly listed technology group for construction services, has been commissioned to build the Thiba Dam in Kenya, which will help secure the year-round water supply for the country's agriculture.
Angola: China’s Gezhouba Group Co. building Angola’s biggest hydroelectric dam
The China Gezhouba Group Co. Ltd (CGGC) has been contracted to build the Caculo Cabaça hydroelectric complex on the Cuanza River in Cuanza Norte province, where the first stone was laid in place by the President of Angola on Friday, reports Xinhua news agency.
Société du Tramway de Rabat-Salé (STRS) has appointed a consortium of Colas Rail and its Morocco-based road construction subsidiary, GTR, to build the extension of Line 2 of the Rabat-Salé tramway. This extension will connect Rabat’s Yacoub El Mansour district and Salé’s new hospital to the tramway network. The €29m (£26m) contract includes installing the tram platforms, laying rails and installing rail signalling equipment over a total distance of 7km.
Morocco: BMCE Bank, China’s CRCC sign agreement to build Africa’s tallest tower in Rabat
BMCE Bank of Africa signed an agreement to build Africa’s tallest tower in Rabat with State-owned giant China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) and the General Construction Company of Casablanca (TGCC). The CRCC said previously in a statement that it will take responsibility for 60% of the project, which is budgeted at $380 million, while their Moroccan partners will handle the other 40%.
