Nestle Nigeria declares N16.5bn profit

Nestle Nigeria delivered huge progress, showing profit after tax of N16.5 billion for the period under review as against N535.8 million made in 2016. The company also made a turnover growth of 52 per cent in H1:2017 having recorded N121.9 billion in revenue when compared to N80.4 billion made in H1:2016

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa acquires Equator Bottlers

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Proprietary Limited completed the negotiations for the acquisition of Equator Bottlers, the third largest Coca-Cola bottler in Kenya. Ths acquisition of Equator Bottlers goes in line with CCBA's goes in line with the company's aim to enhance efficiency and provide a more sustainable system for Coca-Cola in Africa.

The grocery chain, Usave was introduced by Shoprite in Nigeria in 2016. It introduced products at discounted prices by removing costs of packaging and other trimmings.

Steinhoff to acquire a controlling stake in Shoprite

After cancelling merger plans with Shoprite in February, Steinhoff is acquiring stake in Shoprite which will make the holding company STAR hold 22.7% of economic interest and 50% of the voting rights of Shoprite. The acquisition will provide Steinhoff access to 15 Africain markets.

Unilever concluded plans to increase investment portfolio in Nigeria

Unilever commited to contribute to the growth of the Nigerian economy through continuous investments through "the development of a sustainable supply chain structure consisting of local manufacturers". Unilever's investments will be towards manufacturing and developing local research in order to support the country's strategy in becoming a knowledge based economy.

 AB InBev is targeting Heineken and Guiness in Africa with Budweiser

According to the AB InBev's CEO, the company is seeing potential to winning over its competitors in Africa. Heineken and Guinness created a market in the region prior to Budweiser entrance, which represents an opportunity for AB InBev. The comapny increased its sales and profit by 6% and 30% respectively for the first half of the year and is planning to expand its production capacity in Nigeria.

Nakummat Rwanda is stable despite disruption in in the regional branch

Depite Nakumatt's decision to shut down some branches in Kenya and Uganda, its operations remain stable in Rwanda and will not affect local operations, it is also planning to open a new branch in Rwanda. Rwanda's operations have been stable and able to meet obligations towards debitors and suppliers independently from the parent company or other subsidiaries in the region.

Majid Al Futtaim to acquire 26 Geant Stores to rebrand as Carrefour

Carrefour is expanding in the UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait with 26 stores to be acquired from BMA International's Retail Arabia. The acquisition will further enforce Carrefour's leading position in the region increasing the number of store stores in the UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait to 80, 11 and 8 respectively.

Bladna Farm is expecting to meet Qatar's total domestic dairy needs by April 2018

Bladna Farm is expanding its facilities to house a higher number of livestock (25,000 heads of cows). The company is also planning on importing a total of 14,000 cows in different phases to increase its dairy production to 300 tonnes per day.
